Format

Match Structure

• 12 Classical Games: The first player to reach 6.5 points or more is crowned World Champion. If the score is tied after 12 games, the match proceeds to tie-breaks.

• Classical Time Control:

  • 120 minutes for the first 40 moves

  • 60 minutes for the next 20 moves

  • 15 minutes for the remainder of the game

  • 30-second increment per move starting from move 61

Tie-Breaks (if tied 6–6)

• Rapid Playoff: 4 games at 25 minutes + 10-second increment per move.

• Blitz Playoff: If still level, up to five 2-game Blitz matches (5 minutes + 3-second increment per move).

• Armageddon (Sudden-Death): If still tied after 10 Blitz games, a single final game is played:

  • White receives 5 minutes; Black receives 4 minutes (both get a 3-second increment starting from move 61).

  • The toss winner chooses color.

  • In the event of a draw, Black is declared the champion.
