The M5 World Championship is the fifth edition of the annual world championship for the game Mobile Legends (Mobile Legends: Bang Bang), which is the biggest and most important event in the esports season for the game in 2023.

Format

Wildcard Stage (November 23rd – 26th, 2023)

  • Group Phase (Nov 23–25): Eight teams were randomly drawn into two groups of four. They competed in a Single Round Robin format where all matches were Best-of-3 (Bo3). Winning a match granted 1 point. The top 2 teams from each group advanced, while the bottom 2 teams were eliminated.

  • Crossover Matches (Nov 26): The top 2 teams from each group advanced to a cross-paired phase played as a Best-of-5 (Bo5). The first-place team of Group A faced the runner-up of Group B, and vice versa. The winners of these two matchups advanced directly to the main Group Stage, while the losers were eliminated.

Group Stage (December 2nd – 7th, 2023)

  • Format: The main event commenced with 16 teams divided equally into 4 groups.

  • The Mechanics: Teams competed in a Single Round Robin format, with every match played as a Best-of-3 (Bo3). Winning a match granted 1 point.

  • Advancement: The top 2 teams from each group successfully advanced to the Knockout Stage, while the bottom 2 teams from each group faced immediate elimination.

Knockout Stage (December 9th – 17th, 2023)

  • Format: The remaining 8 teams were placed into a high-stakes Double-Elimination bracket.

  • Match Style: To ensure a high standard of competitive depth, all upper bracket, lower bracket, and elimination series were contested as Best-of-5 (Bo5) matches.

  • The Grand Final: The ultimate championship showdown escalated into an intensive, maximum-endurance Best-of-7 (Bo7) series to crown the global champion.
