The MLBB Southeast Asia Cup 2023 (commonly referred to as MSC 2023) is a pivotal tournament in the history of the game, being the first edition where the tournament expands beyond the narrow regional scope of Southeast Asia to become an international competition that encompasses other global regions.

Format

Group Stage (June 10th – 13th, 2023)

  • Format: The initial phase split the 12 participating teams into 4 groups of 3 teams each.

  • The Mechanics: Teams competed within their groups in a Single Round Robin format, with all matchups played as Best-of-3 (Bo3) series.

  • Advancement: The top 2 teams from each group successfully advanced to the high-stakes Knockout Stage, while the bottom-placed team from each group was instantly eliminated.

Knockout Stage (June 15th – 18th, 2023)

  • Format: Unlike the traditional double-elimination format seen in other major events, the playoffs operated as a ruthless Single Elimination bracket. With no lower bracket safety net, a single match loss resulted in immediate elimination.
Series Length

  • Standard Playoff Matches: To maintain high tactical depth throughout the bracket, all quarterfinal, semifinal, and third-place matches were contested as Best-of-5 (Bo5) series.

  • The Grand Final: The ultimate championship series escalated into an intensive Best-of-7 (Bo7) showdown to determine the international crown champion.
