The 2024 World Championship (commonly referred to as Worlds 2024) is the fourteenth edition of the annual world championships for the game League of Legends. The competition took place in Europe across three major cities: Berlin, Paris, and London, from September 25 to November 2, 2024.
Format
Play-In Stage (September 25th – 29th, 2024)
-
Format: 8 teams competed in a Double-Elimination bracket.
-
Match Style: All series were played as Best-of-3 (Bo3).
-
Advancement: The top 4 surviving teams advanced to the Swiss Stage, while the remaining 4 teams were eliminated.
Swiss Stage (October 3rd – 7th & 10th – 13th, 2024)
-
Format: A 16-Team Swiss System consisting of the 4 Play-In qualifiers and the 12 directly seeded teams. Teams with identical win-loss records were repeatedly paired against each other, and no two teams could face each other twice.
-
Match Style: Standard matches were Best-of-1 (Bo1). All qualification (3-win) and elimination (3-loss) matches shifted to Best-of-3 (Bo3).
-
Side Selection: Determined by initial draw pools (higher pool received side choice). If teams belonged to the same pool, drawing order dictated side selection.
-
Advancement: The first 8 teams to reach 3 wins advanced to the Knockout Stage; teams accumulating 3 losses were eliminated.
Knockout Stage (October 17th – November 2nd, 2024)
-
Format: The final 8 teams were placed into a ruthless, high-stakes Single-Elimination bracket.
-
Match Style: Every series—across the Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Grand Final—was played as a Best-of-5 (Bo5).
