The Norway Chess 2023 tournament is the eleventh edition of one of the strongest and most prominent classical tournaments in the world of chess, held in the city of Stavanger, Norway, with a total prize pool of 2,500,000 Norwegian Krone (equivalent to about 232,500 US Dollars).

Type: Single Round-Robin.

Players: 10 Grandmasters.

Rounds: 9 rounds total (every player faces each other once).
Scoring System & Armageddon
Each matchup begins with a Classical Game:

Winner: 3 points

Classical Draw:

If the classical game ends in a draw, both players automatically move to an Armageddon Tiebreak Game on the same day.

Armageddon Winner: 1.5 points

1.5 - 0.5in the standings)

Armageddon Game Rules

White: Receives more time on the clock (usually 10 minutes) but must win the game.

Black: Receives less time (usually 7 minutes) but only needs a draw or win to take the tiebreak victory.
