The London Chess Classic 2013 is the fifth edition of one of the most prestigious chess tournaments in the world. The tournament took place in the British capital London with a rapid chess format (Rapid) under the name Super Sixteen Rapid and a total prize pool of 150,000 euros.

Format

Tournament Format & Rules

  • General Rules

    • Scoring: Sofia Rules (3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss).

    • Time Control: 25 minutes + 10-second increment per move ($25+10$).

  • Group Stage

    • Format: Double Round-Robin.

    • Advancement: Top 2 players from each group qualify for the Playoffs.

    • Tiebreakers:

      • Tie for 2nd & 3rd Place: A 2-game playoff with a $10+10$ time control.

      • Tie for 1st & 2nd Place: No playoff match; lots are drawn to determine the 1st and 2nd seed positions.

  • Playoffs

    • Format: Single-Elimination Bracket.

    • Tiebreaker: A 2-game match with a $10+10$ time control.
