The FIDE World Chess Cup 2023 is the tenth edition of one of the most important and powerful classical chess tournaments in the world, organized by the Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) at the "Marriott Hotel Boulevard" in Baku, Azerbaijan, from July 30 to August 24, 2023, with a total prize pool of $1.834 million USD for the open section (with $2.5 million in total including the women's tournament).

🎮 Tournament Format & Progression

📍 Main Event Structure

  • Tournament System: Single-Elimination knockout bracket.

  • First-Round Byes: The top 50 seeded players receive an automatic bye into the second round.

⏱️ Time Control (Classical Matches)

  • First 40 Moves: 90 minutes per player.

  • Rest of the Game: Additional 30 minutes added after move 40.

  • Increment: 30 seconds per move, starting from move 1.
