The FIDE World Blitz Chess Championship 2022 is the largest annual global event in blitz chess competitions, organized by the Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) in Almaty, Kazakhstan, from December 29 to 30, 2022, right after the conclusion of the Rapid Championship.

🎮 Tournament Format & Progression

📍 Main Event Structure

  • Tournament System: Swiss System played over 21 rounds.

  • Time Control: 3 minutes base time per player, with a 2-second increment per move starting from move 1.

🏆 Tie-Break Criteria

If two or more players finish with the same number of points, ties are broken using the following criteria in order of priority:

  1. Buchholz Cut 1

  2. Buchholz

  3. Average Blitz Rating of Opponents Cut 1 (AROC 1)

  4. Direct Encounter (Head-to-head result between the tied players)

  5. Drawing of Lots
